Volunteer Opportunities

Founded in 1977 by the Brandon Women's Service League, the Brandon Regional Hospital Auxiliary has expanded its role and programs to keep pace with the needs of a rapidly growing community.

Today the Auxiliary totals more than 200 volunteers who perform a wide range of services for the patients, guests and staff of Brandon Regional Hospital.

Scholarships

The Auxiliary is a nonprofit organization; proceeds from the hospital gift shops and other volunteer fundraisers are used to provide scholarships for those in the Brandon area pursuing careers in the medical field.

The scholarships are awarded based on financial need, and more than $600,000 has been given to students since the program's inception. Approximately $20,000 is distributed to various local charities each year.

Youth Summer Volunteers

Through the Hospital Auxiliary, Youth have the opportunity to volunteer in at Brandon Regional Hospital during the summer under the guidance of the Hospital’s Volunteers. The Youth are given the opportunity to volunteer in various department(s) including the maternity ward, nurse's station, lab, medical records and cafeteria. Duties may range from assisting nurses with errands to clerical work.

To participate in the program, you will need to:

  • Be between the ages of 14 (by June 1, 2010) and 17.
  • Complete a Youth Summer Volunteer application by March 31, interview and orientation.
  • Background screening may be required.
  • Commit to volunteering a minimum of two 3-hour shifts per week and commit to work the entire summer (beginning June 14, 2010 through August 13) at the hospital. Once accepted into the program, a Youth Volunteer may miss up to 2 weeks during the summer if approved by their Department Chair.
